China Electrotechnical Society Leads Delegation to The 37th World Electric Vehicle Symposium and Exhibition

The 37th World Electric Vehicle Symposium (EVS37) was successfully held from June 23-26, 2024, at the COEX Convention Center in Seoul, South Korea. China Electrotechnical Society (CES) led a delegation to the event. The symposium, hosted jointly by the World Electric Vehicle Association (WEVA) and the Asia-Pacific Electric Vehicle Association (EVAAP), was organized by the Korean Society of Automotive Engineers (KSAE).

With the theme "Electric Waves to Future Mobility," EVS37 featured two main sections: technical forums and exhibitions. The technical forum received 707 submissions from 34 countries, covering 12 research areas related to electric vehicles. The forum included over 30 activities such as plenary presentations, technical summits, roundtable discussions, poster sessions, and technical tours. The exhibition section saw participation from over 150 companies, occupying nearly 10,000 square meters.

Notable attendees from CES included Professor C.C. Chan (Qingquan Chen), Specially Appointed Advisor to CES and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; Xuhui Wen, an executive committee member of EVAAP, the director of the Electric Vehicle Committee of CES, and a researcher at the Institute of Electrical Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences; and Dou Yanan, the director of the CES International Cooperation Department. They also participated in the EVAAP and WEVA member meetings held concurrently.

CES Delegation Engages in Conference Exchanges

On the afternoon of June 24, EVAAP and WEVA member meetings were held at the COEX Convention Center. The meetings were presided over by Professor Myoungho Sunwoo from Hanyang University, the Rotating Chairman of EVAAP. Professor Sunwoo welcomed the attendees and delivered an overview of EVS37, discussed the activities of the EVAAP secretariat, and presented the financial report for 2024. Representatives from China, Hong Kong, Japan, Thailand, and other regions reported on the developments within their respective electric vehicle sectors. Professor C.C. Chan (Qingquan Chen), Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, highlighted China's recent achievements and future trends in the electric vehicle industry. Kenji Morita from the Japan Automobile Research Institute addressed the planning for EVS40 in Asia. Additionally,  members deliberated on issues related to the publication of the World Electric Vehicle Journal and reached an agreement.

Upon the completion of the EVAAP meeting, the WEVA member meeting commenced. Professor Sunwoo introduced the overall program, sponsorship, exhibitor recruitment, and paper submissions for EVS37. Subsequently, the organizers of EVS38 from Sweden and Ms. Genevieve Cullen, the President of the Electric Drive Transportation Association from the United States, respectively introduced the preparations for EVS38 and EVS39.

The World Electric Vehicle Symposium and Exhibition (EVS) is alternately organized by the Asia-Pacific Electric Vehicle Association (EVAAP), the European Association for Electromobility, and the Electric Drive Transportation Association of the United States. It is currently the largest and most influential international flagship conference in the field of electric vehicles. As a member of the EVAAP, the China Electrotechnical Society actively participates in EVS-related activities, consistently striving to enhance communication and cooperation with scientists and entrepreneurs worldwide in the electric vehicle sector. The society actively fulfills its responsibilities and obligations as a member of both the EVAAP and the World Electric Vehicle Association (WEVA), building platforms for exchange and collaboration around the advancements in electric vehicle technology, innovative achievements, and new bushiness forms in industry development. Through these efforts, it contributes Chinese wisdom and strength to the global advancement of electric vehicle technology. The China Electrotechnical Society has successfully hosted EVS16, EVS25, and EVS34 in China in 1999, 2010, and 2021 respectively. In 2025, the society will continue to organize experts and scholars from domestic enterprises and institutions in the electric vehicle field to participate in EVS38, to be held in Gothenburg, Sweden.
